6 tips for your Learner’s License Exam

In this article, we have kindly provided you with 6 tips to make your apprentice licensing exam a success. With the help of professionals, and people whose licenses have already been issued, we will go through these 6 tips, which will make your exam completely simple.

Without further ado, let’s get started.

First tip: get permission from parents or legal guardians

First tip: get permission from parents or legal guardians

It is important that you get permission from your parents or guardians. It is true that at Ecole de Conduite Omega Driving School you can start your theory lessons a few weeks before your 16th birthday. However, you should consider your caregivers when making any decision.

However, once you turn 16, have completed the Module 5 exam and have your certificate in hand, you can go to the SAAQ (Société de l’assurance Automobile du Québec), to get your apprentice’s license. Remember that, from now on, you will be a new driver.

Second tip: get an apprentice license manual

When taking driving lessons, it is important to study as much as you can, to make things easier. That’s why getting a manual is essential, to start taking the licensing exam.

You can request this material with us, so that you can reinforce all the points that will be touched in the learning modules. Studying this manual, and any relevant information, will be useful for you when taking the written test.

Third tip: review everything seen in the modules

Third tip: review everything seen in the modules

At Ecole de Conduite Omega Driving School, we work by “phases” divided into modules. To obtain your Learner’s License, you must have completed Phase 1 and successfully passed your theory exam at our school.

This first phase consists of 5 theory modules (divided into 2 hours each), taught by the most qualified professionals in automotive driving. It is important for you to know that in the fifth class you will take the exam to obtain your learner’s license.

Also, in order to satisfactorily conclude this first phase, you must have spent a minimum of 4 weeks in the course. With all this hustle and bustle you will have to review, since here your cognitive abilities will be determined, to take the reins of your car.

Fourth tip: ask questions

Asking questions will make you more capable, because you will solve the enigmas that may arise in your learning process. Consulting your teacher, or people with experience, is the best idea to ensure success.

But remember to be pertinent to your questions, so you don’t get confused. Likewise, make notes to maximize your newly acquired knowledge and get the much-desired apprentice license.

Fifth tip: make sure you remember the day of the test

Be sure to put reminders on your phone, on a wall calendar, or in notes, on the day of the test. In addition, be patient and be ready to take the test and go to the SAAQ to get your learner’s permit. Time is money, so you must be clear about your responsibility.

Fifth tip: make sure you remember the day of the test

Sixth tip: keep all documents in order

On the day of the test, you should have all your documents in order, so that you do not fall victim to any mishaps. Also, present at least two forms of identification (consider that photocopies are often not accepted).

Now, once you have finished Phase 1, and obtained your apprentice’s license, you will be able to continue with the following phases, to obtain your driver’s license. Remember to study hard, be attentive and organized, so as not to fail the exam.

Sixth tip: keep all documents in order

How to choose a driving school?

How to choose a driving school?

Before thinking about buying a vehicle, you need to know how to choose a driving school, because not all of them can be the right ones for you, and that’s why it’s essential to spend some time looking for the one that best suits your needs.

But how do you know which driving school to choose?

It may not be as different as the moment you chose a university to study at, or the country you decided to travel to, but it all starts with research, and here we will help you think about what criteria you should take into account when you start your research to choose a driving school.

What to expect from a driving school?

What did you expect from the last restaurant you visited? Maybe you expected it to have a great variety on the menu, a comfortable atmosphere, excellent treatment, music or some kind of entertainment. The truth is that our human nature has been predisposed to expect something that makes us feel good about our decision to go to that restaurant and not the one next to it. Our nature is to choose.

The same goes for choosing a driving school, which will train you and provide you with the tools and knowledge to learn how to drive. Even so, do you still think about what to expect from a driving school?

Here are a few things a driving school should offer you.

Variety of payment methods

From the freedom to pay in installments to various forms of payment, a driving school should offer you a variety of methods to cancel fees in your courses.

Payment facilities, such as canceling 50% to formalize your registration, and canceling the remaining 50% at the time of the theory test, is a good start. But don’t forget that these modalities should be able to be cancelled in cash, debit or credit card, besides having also online methods like Western Union, PayPal or some digital wallet.

Flexible schedules

You should not accept that the driving school does not respect your personal and professional schedules.

To choose a driving school you should focus on one that can receive you in the free time you have available. This can be on weekends, before work or after work. Make sure that their flexibility in terms of class times is suitable for you.

Fair rates

There are academies or institutes that sometimes take advantage of their students by charging them exorbitant fees.

It is acceptable for a driving school to charge a high fee if it can be justified, as long as its results are verifiable. Make sure that the institution has references, certifications, personalized attention and excellent reputation: everything you consider appropriate to justify its costs.

Online platform

It is no surprise to most that an academy or institution has an online platform for its students, and driving schools should be no exception.

Although it is not mandatory, having a platform where you can find educational material, which will work perfectly for you to resort to essential information, is a resource that many aspiring drivers appreciate.

Comprehensive training

And you can’t fail to make sure of the curriculum.

If it is available on the institution’s website, it would be a great idea to review the curriculum and make sure that there are classes with a minimum of standard, to prepare good drivers.

It is not enough that a driving school only sells courses, but also that they care about training pedestrians in certified and well-educated drivers.

They will get a reputation and you will get an excellent education.

Tips before choosing a driving school

Sometimes it is not only the responsibility of an institution to ensure the success or failure of its students, but it is also their responsibility to ensure their victories or defeats.

Tips before choosing a driving schoolIf you want to pass the driving course as an outstanding student, take into account these tips before choosing a driving school.

Fight your fears

Yes, fighting your fears is vital, if you want to learn to drive.

Remember the scary Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies and his terror of spiders? Well, maybe he didn’t overcome his fear, but he did learn how to fight them, using magic to scare them away or scare them off.

Overcoming a fear is not an easy task, but fighting it in a way that helps you not to remain motionless or petrified is a great advance.

Use any means possible to learn

Since we live in a world surrounded by technology and educational material everywhere, any medium becomes a useful form of learning.

You can resort to watching videos from YouTube, Instagram reels, or as simple as asking your family and friends, to solve your doubts and questions. And if you need more practice, we’re sure they’ll give you the help you need.

Listen to your instructors

“Only the art of listening means more than you can imagine”. -Bob Nelson.

As Bob Nelson puts it, the art of listening is perhaps just what you need. You must remember that it is you who are taking the course with a purpose: to learn.

Learning also means listening to those who have knowledge greater than ours, whose wisdom would serve us well with excellence, in order to accomplish a goal, which in this case is learning to drive.

Anger Management

Controlling anger can be a complex thing to achieve, but it is not impossible.

From something as simple as listening to a song to relax to dancing, they are effective mechanisms in controlling anger.

Anger can result from external factors such as endless traffic, or internal factors such as stress. But there’s no harm that doesn’t come.

Don’t be discouraged

Believe us, not everyone is born prepared to be a professional driver by birth. Even the scientists who made it possible to take astronauts to the Moon had to study hard, too, before their dreams come true.

If you fail a test, what’s the worst that could happen? You will still have the opportunity to take it again. And with the prior knowledge, you can refresh it and have a better chance of succeeding.

The greatest public figures are used to failure, and that didn’t stop them. The obstacles you face in life are only a test, to show your commitment to your goals and dreams.

Don’t be discouraged!

Choose the right time to learn to drive

Choose the right time to learn to driveSometimes, we human beings are clouded by the idea of wanting to have or wanting to achieve things that we set out to do, without first taking the time to analyze whether it is really the right time to do so.

An example as simple as this is wanting to have your own vehicle at the age of 12. Do you think it is the right time to have your own vehicle?

It could be a vehicle, a house, a new phone, that pair of shoes that you long for: there are things that need more attention in a shorter period of time.

For some people it may be difficult to understand, and for others not, but the truth is that if you make the decision to choose a driving school to learn to drive, make sure it’s just what you need at that moment in your life.

Criteria to take into account before choosing a driving school

Every institution, academy or any major change you may make in your life deserves the opportunity to be evaluated and analyzed, to determine the pros and cons.

Making sure that that specific driving school is the right one for you will save you from many unpleasant eventualities. So, here are some tips that will help you to know a driving school better, before you enroll:

Check their website in advance

Credibility has a fine line between a website’s fraud and its reputation.

Distrusting an institution that does not have a website is acceptable, since in a world full of technology it is unheard of to think of not creating a website for a company.

So, if the driving school you were recommended to, or the one you saw in the corner of your home, does not have a website, you better run before it’s too late!

Check references and experiences of students, alumni or acquaintances

One of the best ways to blindly trust a company is if someone you trust recommends it.

On a marketing level, referral sales are the goal to which many companies aspire. And if you are the one who helps them make their dream a reality, it better be a great dream.

Don’t be afraid to ask and investigate former students, as they will be able to give you a quality opinion about their stay at the academy.

Make sure you are comfortable with the curriculum

Maybe it’s a small thing, but feeling comfortable with what you’ll be studying never hurts.

Imagine that you want to study baking and you want to learn how to make profiteroles. You sign up, start the course, bake and, without warning, you are already certified, and you never learned how to make profiteroles. What do you think happened?

Make sure you read the curriculum beforehand, because it will save you time and energy at the end of the course. There will be driving schools that will teach a certain number of educational elements, and others that will need resources. That’s why it’s so important to review them first.

To conclude, the choice of how to choose a driving school should not be so simple, because eventually you will be part of a community that is in the eye of the hurricane of disasters, if you do not learn how to avoid them.

Learning will give you the tools you need to execute your knowledge in the best possible way, without causing collateral damage. Remember that driving is not just for fun, as there is a huge degree of responsibility that only wise and responsible drivers understand and accept.

If you want to learn how to drive in the right way, you are always welcome at our Omega Driving School.

The 10 rules of preventive driving

Road accidents are present and always have a reason to be. That is why it will always be important to take a precautionary attitude, when driving.

But what is preventive driving? How can we do it? Today we will talk more about preventive driving and provide you with 10 essential rules to achieve it.

What is preventive driving?

Preventive driving is adapting to all circumstances that can influence driving and anticipating dangerous situations.

Within preventive driving you can obtain a set of techniques that allow the driver to depend on his behavior, to avoid any accident.

It is not necessary to avoid an accident in order not to be harmed on the road, but it is only necessary to know how to anticipate, to know what will happen and how to act.

Preventive driving is based on three principles: Vision, anticipation and space management.

Vision technique

It makes the driver look in advance at the area where he will be located in a short time.

Anticipation

It allows, among other techniques, the driver to react to any obstacle with enough time to avoid any risk.

Space management

Anticipation is taken into account, to evaluate any management within the space. In this case, the road or any street in the city.

Keep a safety distance that guarantees 3 seconds minimum of reaction.

Observe your space at the sides, to avoid areas of uncertainty that may be invaded by other drivers.

Without a doubt, in this period the number of accidents increases considerably, due to weather conditions, and that is why we also want to provide you with 10 basic rules of preventive driving.

Rules of preventive driving

Respect traffic signs

The first rule of preventive driving is to respect traffic signs. According to research, most traffic accidents, whether urban or on highways, have been caused by drivers who have violated traffic signs or regulations.

Respecting these signs allows us to travel correctly on the different roads, and they are also taken into account as advance information.

Using the seat belt

Studies show, through research, that the use of seat belts reduces the chances of serious injury by 80%, in the event of an accident.

It is a basic rule of preventive driving. If you do not take into account the other rules, the use of the belt will not help you prevent accidents, but it will provide protection at the time of any incident.

Do not drive under the influence of alcohol

One of the biggest mistakes in driving is driving on the road under the influence of alcohol. It causes distraction, sleep and speeding.

Alcohol prevents the ability to react to any space management.

Night driving

The risk of having an incident increases at night, when traffic is faster and visibility is lower.

Night driving changes the perception of the environment. You should take into account preventive or defensive driving, in order to avoid any accident by reducing speed, as this becomes more relevant.

At night dazzling occurs, the same that causes total blindness.

Take distance

Maintain sufficient separation from both the vehicle in front and the vehicle behind. This will help you to brake early and progressively, to be more alert to other drivers.

At this point, the two important factors are the reaction time of the driver and the braking time of the vehicle

The reaction time

It will be the one that passes since the driver can see from a distance any obstacle.

Braking time

This will depend on the condition of the vehicle with respect to the brakes, among other factors.

Firm position while driving

Keep both hands on the wheel, firmly. This will allow us to act immediately, in case of any emergency.

You should keep your head supported on the vehicle seat or headrest, as this is a safety feature designed to withstand the blow of the head backwards, in any impact.

Assess the climate condition

Most traffic accidents occur on rainy days. The technique, in this case, is based on discovering the potential dangers that can happen at any time.

Keep in mind that conditions on the streets get worse and lose grip, and that the ability to drive well gets worse, so you have to look for the right speed, at that moment.

It is recommended that if you encounter fog on the road, you should not stop, but rather proceed with greater caution and at a low speed, to where you can stop at a safer service location.

You may be interested in the following article: Driving in fog, how to act?

Do not park in alternate lanes

If you do this you will be impeding the flow of traffic and this will cause congestion to form.

By forcing other drivers to change lanes, you can cause a side or rear-end accident.

Use Turn Signals

It is an important rule in preventive driving. This will help other drivers know how to react better and in time, the moment you will cross to the right or to the left. You will avoid all kinds of incidents.

Keep the vehicle in good condition

It is one of the factors that contribute to avoid risks on the roads. If a vehicle is defective, it could cause any incident.

Make certain checks before leaving, to make sure you are safe when driving.

Above all, it is important to anticipate, and that is why preventive driving is relevant. If we drive slower we will have a better view and this will give us time to maneuver and react in time, in the midst of the unexpected.

Omega Driving School offers you services with a lot of experience, providing quality in your teaching, which becomes a top priority.

Within the courses you will find preventive driving classes, to provide you with more safety.

Classes for driving licences in Quebec

There is no doubt that driving is a vital added value. Once you have learned, manage your driving license and be in good standing.

It is important for you to know that in Quebec there are at least eight types of driving licenses. Now we will let you know them so that you can determine the process that corresponds to you.

Class 1 Driving License

This authorization is the highest ranking, it gives you the right to drive various weights of heavy vehicles, such as a tractor of about 4,500 kg or more, equipped with a fifth wheel.

It also allows you to drive trailers or semi-trailers. With such a driving license you can transport loads of equipment, tools or accessories weighing 2,000 kg or more.

If you have a Class 1 driver’s license, you may also drive any other vehicle, except motorcycles, for which you must apply for a driver’s license of either type 6A, 6B, 6C or 6E, depending on your case.

You may drive a heavy vehicle with an air brake system or a manual transmission. However, if the vehicle exceeds 25 meters, you must apply for a special permit.

Class 2 Driving License

The class 2 driver’s license authorizes you to drive a bus with more than 24 passengers. However, it does not allow you to drive cars regulated by the Class 1 driver’s license, or motorcycles.

For motorcycles, as we have already seen, you must manage your class 6A, 6B, 6C or 6E permits.

This driving license does allow you to drive cars equipped with an air brake system or manual transmission.

Class 3 Driving License

This driving license authorizes you to drive cars with up to 4500 kg net load.

You may also drive a trailer or semi-trailer with a net mass greater than 2,000 kg but not exceeding 4500 kg.

This license also allows you to drive any other vehicle except those classified with class 1 and class 2 permits and motorcycles.

Class 4A Driving License

This type of driving license allows you to be in charge of an ambulance, a fire engine or a police vehicle.

You can also drive a bus with a maximum capacity of 24 passengers. You can drive a scooter or moped, which is also allowed by a class 6D permit; as well as drive a tractor, which is also allowed by a class 8 permit.

Class 4B Driver’s License

With this type of driving license you can drive a bus or mini-bus without exceeding 24 passengers.

With this permit you can also drive a vehicle with 2 or 3 wheels but equipped with an electric motor whose capacity does not exceed 50 cm³ and has an automatic transmission.

You can also drive a car that does not exceed 4500 kg, as well as a two or three-wheeled vehicle equipped with an electric motor that does not exceed cm³ and has an automatic transmission.

This authorization also allows you to drive a tractor.

Class 5 Driving License

This driver’s license is one of the most requested. It is the one that guarantees you to drive the usual vehicles, as long as they do not exceed 4,500 kg.

It also guarantees you to drive a cab, or the habitable vehicles that are so useful in the vacations.

This class 5 driving license also authorizes you to drive vehicles equipped with tools, such as those with a built-in work station, or similar.

The Class 5 driver’s license also allows you to drive a socooter or moped (Class 5D), a tractor, which can also be driven with a Class 8 license.

With this permit you can also drive a trailer.

Other types of driving licences

Driving licences of type 6A, 6B and 6C are reserved for various types of motorcycles and similar vehicles.

Type 6D licences are reserved for two-wheeled scooters. Type 6E permits allow you to drive only three-wheeled vehicles.

While the class 8 driving license is for driving tractors.

Remember that each type of driving license has its own particularities, as Omega Driving School we have two types of driving courses, to refresh knowledge or to learn.

We will be happy to prepare you for your driving license as we know that this is the way to your autonomy.

Seven tips to take away your fear of driving

Did you know that the fear of driving is called amaxophobia? A high percentage of people suffer from it, so don’t think that overnight people are happy in vehicles and listening to music: it’s a process of adaptation. Like everything in life, confidence is fostered through practice.

That anxiety, the emptiness in your stomach before you get into the vehicle, or the nerves that run through your hands, can be caused by a previous trauma related to driving, or it is simply a matter of giving up the comfort of being a co-driver. The good news is that the fear of driving can be overcome.

Fear in itself is not a bad thing, remember that it is one of the most fundamental emotions of human beings to survive and stay out of harm’s way. However, the fear of driving means that we overestimate these situations and feel incapable, when in fact, we can solve everyday problems that are much more complex than driving.

Omega Driving School has over 35 years of experience, forging new drivers, so share these tips that will be useful when you start your driving lessons.

Tip 1: Encourage self-awareness

You know, your mind and your body are in tune, so try to stay at peace and transmit that serenity. The mind is powerful and will be your main ally to overcome fear of driving. Of course, from your reading space you’ll counter with a “yes, it’s easy to say it from there”, but remember: as Omega Driving School, we have more than three decades of forging drivers.

Our experience has shown us that one step towards independence is a calm attitude in the face of this challenge. Don’t worry, a team of professionals is ready to support you and we know how to do it. We will be pleased to guide you and, above all, to keep you on your toes when you take the wheel to suggest actions that will allow you to drive like a professional from day one.

You have to know, the fear of driving manifests itself in three ways. With cognitive, physiological and observable symptoms. Cognitive refers to negative thoughts, lack of concentration, worry, for example. Observable symptoms refer to sweating, nervous movements in the hands, for example. While the physiological symptoms are related to aspects such as emptiness in the stomach, tiredness without apparent cause, dizziness, and definitely affect.

Tip 2: Change Your Thinking

You know, you need to analyze and identify what makes you think driving is a threat. Do you think you’ll lose control? Confuse the pedals? Feel overwhelmed controlling the mirrors, pedals and leverage? Can’t judge distances in the lane?

Now driving is not so complicated, even the vehicles come equipped with security cameras to broadcast live the spaces you have to maneuver. Identify your fears and try to neutralize them, if you do you are closer to the experience of enjoying driving.

Driving is not only synonymous with responsibility: it also gives you independence, relaxation, autonomy. These are positive feelings that can help you neutralize the fear of driving.

Tip 3: Increase your confidence

What would you do if you drove? Would you stop spending hours waiting for them to pick you up? Would you visit your loved ones often? Would you stop using staff transportation to optimize time? Would you take your loved ones to the hospital in an emergency?

Knowing how to drive is a skill that can even save someone’s life. So it’s time for you to increase your self-confidence to overcome your fear of driving. Challenging yourself will help you get through this stage.

It is incalculable how much time you spend when you move around on public or rental transport. A trip that could take you 30 minutes by car costs you twice as much. It can also translate into not getting a job because you lack this skill, so it’s time to start taking charge of your life with determination.

Tip 4: Go Slowly

Learning to drive is a process. You may see other people slipping between vehicles or doing calculation maneuvers without effort and feel that you can’t do it, don’t worry, in time you will drive like this. In the first months you take the wheel an exercise that will help you overcome the fear of driving will be to design your routes before you leave. If possible, drive with a person who is understanding and who knows how to advise you without getting upset.

At Omega Driving School we are aware that your guide’s temperament will encourage self-confidence. Taking lessons with our team of professionals will inspire you to drive.

Tip 5: Exercise your mind to overcome fears

You may have followed the above advice, but even so, when you go out on the road, the fear of driving torments you and makes it impossible. Contrary to what you may think, fear of driving is not exclusive to women, although they are the ones who recognize it the most.

At the Omega Driving School, we will provide you with techniques so that little by little you will be able to make driving a pleasant experience.

Tip 6: You can drive alone

Yes, the fear of driving may want to make an appearance from time to time, but remember: you already have various skills that are the tools you will use to respond on the road, so it’s time to take the wheel and drive slowly and defensively.

All the knowledge acquired with our professionals must be put into practice. As the days go by you will become more skilled and the fears will disappear.

Tip 7: practice and practice

Of course, when you sit behind the wheel you may need to mentally practice the six steps above to achieve self-control. At Omega Driving School we believe that practice makes perfect, so our learning programs are divided into beginner and refresher programs.

Driving in the fog How to act?

The fog is as unpredictable as it is real, but how do we act if it suddenly appears before us on the road? First of all, it is important that the vehicle is in excellent condition, of course that it has adequate fog lights and that the driver drives attentively.

Fog is formed from water droplets that are held at a low height. In simple terms they are clouds that have rolled down to the ground, but as they are very dense then it becomes difficult to see when driving.  It is very important to learn to make yourself visible when driving in these conditions so that other drivers, as well as pedestrians, on the road can see you.

Fog lamps are special. Headlights installed at the rear of the vehicle cannot be adjusted. Headlights installed at the front should be set as low as possible so that when they are turned on they form a 45° angle from bottom to top, to improve the angle of visibility. These lights are intense, so they should only be used in fog.

How to drive under the fog?

With the car in good condition, and the special lights for fog and snow a part of the driving is saved; however, it is important to drive safely following these simple tips:

  • Before you start your journey it is important to clean up the car windows very well and remove any water or snow residue.
  • It is important to check that the headlights turn on correctly.
  • If it is necessary to adjust the lights, it is never wrong to check that they are safe and well placed.
  • A golden recommendation is to travel slowly, driving conditions in fog are dangerous enough to add to your stress.
  • Snow or fog lights should be used when visibility is reduced to approximately 100 meters, because they are too intense. Once you have crossed the foggy stretch, the lights should be switched off.
  • Another golden tip is to avoid driving with high beams. They may allow you to see a little further but they can also create a mirror effect.
  • Since fog is nothing more than tiny droplets of water it is important to drive with the windscreens active to clean up that moisture and prevent it from sticking to the glass.
  • Because of the change in temperature inside and outside the vehicle, the windows often become foggy. A little heat can help prevent this, but lowering the windows will also help immediately.
  • Under foggy conditions it is important to keep your distance. One safety measure is to consider that you should calculate twice the distance as if you were driving in normal conditions.
  • If you are traveling on a highway, it is best to consider driving in the slowest lane and especially to stay calm, to avoid passing if you don’t have to.
  • When driving with a vehicle ahead, under foggy conditions, you instinctively follow, but it is important to stay alert and better use the reference line to avoid any accident.
  • In foggy conditions, you should brake gently because otherwise your tires may lock up and cause a skid.
  • In difficult conditions it is better to avoid music and distractions. If you reach an intersection and the fog is dense then it is best to take your time and roll down the windows to listen carefully and pass through until you are completely safe.
  • When the fog gets too dense it is best to be cautious and park in a safe place such as a petrol station or in a large space. It is not advisable to stay at the edge of the sidewalk because this action can distract other drivers. It is better to be late than to have an accident because you are not waiting for a while.
  • If the fog is too dense and there is no place nearby to park, then you should activate the flashing lights and drive slowly. Another cautious action is to brake gently and constantly so that other vehicles can see how far away you are.

It is important to find out about the local weather conditions, fog usually arises mainly in the early morning or late afternoon, but that is not a rule, once the conditions are right then a fog bank may be present at any time.

The fog can also freeze the road, so you should travel at a safe speed and be able to brake if necessary. Visit omegadrivingschool to find a safe place to study

Who drives worse? A woman or a man?

No doubt this is a subject of much debate. Myths abound about who drives worse and there is no one to point out or argue, either for or against, men or women. This is a subject of wide debate, but let’s see what direction it takes.

The male chauvinism around the subject are diverse and not to mention the pointing out to their male peers. However, studies indicate that since the invention of the car and its prominence as a means of transport in everyday life, it has been accepted as something natural that “women” do not drive well.

But this is not entirely true, because although it is true that men drive more, unfortunately they are the protagonists of more traffic accidents. A study by the “Centro de Experimentación y Seguridad Vial” in Argentina showed that drivers are involved in 73% of traffic accidents, unlike their female counterparts who are involved in 27%.

These accident data may be related to the fact that men and women have a different approach to driving. While their male peers are encouraged to make driving an inherent skill, for women instead, it is a commitment and to some extent a challenge to assume such responsibility.

In Mexico, the figures also point to men. Of some 24 thousand road accidents that may occur in a 12-month period, 28% involve young men, with an age range of 15-29 years, while 6% involve women between these ages.

The reason for the driving influences these figures in some way. Many women need to learn to drive, encouraged in the role they want to play within their families: autonomy, freedom, free will. They don’t need to wait for someone else to take care of them, they are able to take the lead and solve at the right time how? by taking the wheel.

There is a basis for the way in which the verb “to lead” is conceived. While it is true that men are the protagonists of more accidents, it may be because they are trusted to coordinate their limbs better. In juxtaposition, their female peers take a few seconds longer to coordinate so there may be an explanation for their being more cautious and consequently generating fewer accidents.

But in general the topic should not focus on who drives better or worse or causes more accidents. It is not possible to ignore the fact that the purpose of driving, in the end, is to be sure of arriving safely at your destination regardless of whether you are a man or a woman. In that sense, it is time to move on to the next question.

Is it important to go to driving school?

The driver’s license is one of the first conquests. The freedom of mobility is a real achievement because it gives autonomy and gives another meaning to the ability to be able to solve problems on your own, but with it you also live a real responsibility.

Specialists: a school knows the needs of its students and provides timely information.

However, driving, whether for pleasure or commitment, must be done safely. To achieve this, nothing is more strategic than going to a driving school. The reasons to learn in one are based on several reasons: they not only teach how to drive safely but also how to be a better driver.

While it is true that driving is not an extremely complex skill, the school will allow you to become familiar with your surroundings and therefore feel more comfortable and safe when driving, reducing the chances of an accident.

The school also provides all the signage and traffic laws, so going to school is a process that will eventually make you a better driver.

5 advantages of attending driving school

  • Awareness: learning in a driving school allows you to be aware of the dangers and responsibility involved in driving without anyone yelling!

The driving school provides all related information. For example, the emotional or monetary costs involved in an accident and the importance of responsible driving.

  • Safety: An important benefit is the security of having a skilled person guiding you the first time you are behind the wheel. From his experience he knows what to do in the event of a mistake and the controlled environment makes learning much easier by encouraging self-confidence.
  • Handling emotions: it is not easy to drive. The familiar horror stories where violent or distracted drivers are the protagonists plague, but the person in charge at driving school is able to provide advice to maintain a defensive attitude when behind the wheel, making the task less stressful.
  • Safety: the person in charge of the teaching will also provide other knowledge related to safe driving. It is not enough to use the belt to be safe in a car, defensive driving, among other safe tips come through practice.
  • Knowledge: learning from an expert also facilitates knowledge. His pedagogy is different and he is able to provide all the information that is important to master around vehicles in order to drive safely.

At driving school you will learn, among other things, that safety comes first when you drive. Also that being behind the wheel implies responsibilities, that it is necessary to know and master the traffic laws and signals, as well as learn to give the basic maintenance to the vehicle.

Thanks to its experience, driving school Omega is clear about all this, and therefore has designed its driving lessons for beginners or advanced. In addition, its experience since 1984, allows it to have a friendly, courteous and professional staff that will make you feel comfortable.

Common mistakes during the driving test

The stress of taking the driving test to get a license can make anyone forget even the most basic details, and it is precisely those small mistakes that cause more than 40% of students to fail the driving test on the first attempt. In order to help you pass your test and consequently get your license, in this article we will review the details that you should not forget when you are behind the wheel.

Mistake 1: The mirrors, the seat and the seat belt

The first thing the examiner will check is the preliminary ones, i.e. that you adjust the seat, that you fit the rear-view mirrors, that you fasten your seatbelt and that you make sure that your passenger is also buckled in. The importance of these small actions is their relationship to safety: by positioning the mirrors in relation to a comfortable seating position, you eliminate blind spots, thus reducing the chance of having an accident.

Mistake 2: Corners, roundabouts and fast lanes

Maintaining the proper speed when turning a corner, entering a roundabout or exiting a fast lane is another point where driving school students usually fail when taking their practice test. With the stress of getting on another road, most students brake sharply and block other vehicles, and they run the risk of causing a traffic accident because of their action. My advice: stay calm and reduce your speed progressively.

Mistake 3: The importance of mirrors and tail lights

Never forget to check your rearview mirrors before every maneuver, such as cornering or lane changes. Also, don’t forget to lay the tail lights before you make those maneuvers. Your examiner will be very attentive to these details.

Mistake 4: Pedestrian Respect

When you reach a zebra crossing, always respect it, slow down before you reach it in order to stop without encroaching on the pedestrian crossing, as the principle that every driver must respect is to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

Mistake 5: Respecting traffic signals

Respect for traffic signs is paramount, so it’s one of the key points your instructor will evaluate you on. Even if you know the traffic signs, it is very likely that, due to nervousness, you will confuse them at the time of the test. Two of the signs that students often confuse when taking their test are Stop and Yield.

Remember, at the stop sign, you should always brake, whether or not a vehicle is coming in the other lane, and at the yield sign, you should slow down and go slowly until you are sure there is no other vehicle on the road – no need to stop. If another vehicle is moving or a pedestrian wants to cross the road, you must brake to give way.

Mistake 6: Parking

If there’s one maneuver that makes any first-time driver nervous, it’s parking. The most recurrent failures at this point are miscalculation of space and parking in prohibited areas. My advice: practice well before the test.

Ways to avoid stress on your driving test

We all look forward to our first driver’s license; we associate that feeling with the freedom to move around wherever we want… but to get the license, we must first pass the necessary tests that certify that we are fit to drive a vehicle, so that we do not put our lives or the lives of pedestrians at risk when we finally drive a car.

Like any test, driving also creates a considerable amount of stress, which is not beneficial to your health or to achieving the concentration necessary to pass the exam, so in this article I will give you some tips on how to avoid stress when taking your driving test.

Get a good rest before the test

One of the best ways to calm your nerves is to get a good rest. If you get enough sleep before your driving test, your concentration will be at 100% and therefore you will be able to pay attention to every detail without any difficulty. Remember that driving requires you to be alert and calm at all times.

Organize your time

If there’s one thing that can rob you of peace in an instant, it’s the feeling that you’re running against time. To avoid this unnecessary stress load, the best thing you can do is to get organized and leave your house in good time, taking into account possible heavy traffic. If possible, try to be 15 minutes early so you can relax before the exam.

Take a deep breath: it’s time for the test

Try to stay calm: if you’ve studied the traffic laws and completed the practical classes, there’s nothing to worry about, the exam is a formality, but the knowledge and skill is already yours, so breathe, concentrate and go for your license!

Pay attention to the directions

When you are in front of the examiner, don’t stress, talk to him/her respectfully, listen to the indications that he/she gives you, ask the necessary questions if something is not clear to you and stay calm and alert. When you are about to start the practice test, put on your seat belt, adjust your seat, check your mirrors and ask your passenger to fasten his or her belt. All you have to do now is follow the instructions the examiner will give you.

To keep you stress-free, think of it as just another class you’ve already taken with your instructor, and keep in mind that you can handle that exam.

While there are a thousand ways to control your nerves, each person is different and faces experiences in his or her own way, but one thing that will never fail anyone is a positive attitude, self-confidence and staying alert.

If you feel you need to prepare more intensively before taking your driving test, you can choose to take a class where the instructor prepares you just to pass the exam. Looking for driving schools in Montreal? Choose a certified institution

The realization of driving courses guarantees the learning of correct and safe driving and the knowledge of everything related to road safety education. However, before enrolling in a Montreal driving school, verify that it meets the requirements and has SAAQ authorization.

In addition to these minimum requirements, you should consider other important aspects before choosing a driving school. While driving academy classes are the most effective solution for those seeking to learn to drive, it is sometimes useful to know more about courses and other fundamental aspects before making a decision.

Driving school classes generally cover all aspects of safe and defensive driving; they also focus on strengthening confidence and safety, which are essential to forming good drivers.

Taking driving lessons will make you feel more comfortable and safe behind the wheel. You’ll learn the traffic lights and how to make the right decisions for any situation you experience on the road. The skills and knowledge you’ll acquire through a driving school will help you drive the rest of your life and make you a better, more responsible, and cautious driver.

However, it is important to make sure that the school you choose has cars with double clutch and brake commands, although, as a general rule, this condition is indispensable, it is never too early to be sure, since it is dangerous to learn with a car that is not adapted for this purpose.

A good driving course always includes theoretical classes in basic mechanics, vehicle maintenance, traffic rules and signals, and practical classes in real traffic by trained instructors who provide confidence and safety, in addition to placing greater emphasis on high-difficulty maneuvers for beginners, such as hill start, overtaking, and reverse parking. In this sense, try to request the agenda and verify the content of the classes.

Also, it is important to know if the academy offers the possibility of changing teachers if you request it, remember that the learning process is different for each person and you may not be comfortable with the way an instructor teaches.

Before enrolling, it is also important to make sure that driving school vehicles are insured against any incident, no matter how minor. This guarantee is necessary because, as an apprentice, anyone is exposed to some type of accident.

For your safety, you should also check that the Quebec driving school you will attend has cars labeled with the institution’s badges and typical warning signs. This feature offers greater safety when conducting practical classes.

The advantage of taking courses with a driving school that is committed to the client is that they usually adapt to the client’s needs and pace of life. If this is the case, check that the academy you are interested in has flexible schedules and, if necessary, weekends.

Other secondary aspects to consider are whether the driving school in Quebec offers courses in the language of your choice, be it English or French; whether it offers fee-paying facilities; whether it owns automatic and manual transmission cars (this depends on your particular interest); whether these are regularly inspected by the competent authorities; and, most importantly, whether the driving academy is SAAQ-certified and delivers the 39 hours of compulsory classes stipulated by this institution.

In conclusion, these are all aspects you should consider before choosing the right driving school for you:

  • Flexible schedules
  • Certified bilingual instructors
  • Modern automobiles with double clutch and brake command
  • Auto Accident Insurance
  • Cars labeled with caution signs
  • Topics with relevant content and according to your needs
  • Payment facilities
  • Authorized by SAAQ
  • With prestige, experience and high rate of recommendation and approval

Getting a driver’s license for the first time is a personal achievement and a great satisfaction, but don’t forget that driving is a great responsibility. Before you drive, you need to have enough practice to pass the driving test. Although there are many ways to acquire driving skills, attending a driving school is the most recommended option, since learning in an authorized institution will make you a better driver and serve you for the rest of your life.
